One Page Poetry Circle Archive
Invitation to Meeting of 17 February 2009
The One Page Poetry Circle will meet on the third Tuesday of the month from February to May at the Bloomingdale Branch Library, 150 West 100th Street.
The first meeting of 2009 will be on Tuesday, February 17 from 6.30 to 7.30 p.m.
Come and bring a single page of poetry by a known poet -- with copies for others, if you can. The theme for February 17 is Comic Poetry. What with the weather and the economy, we may all feel an affinity with Dorothy Parker's “Résumé”:
Razors pain you;
Rivers are damp;
Acids stain you;
And drugs cause cramp.
Guns aren't lawful;
Nooses give;
Gas smells awful;
You might as well live.
In keeping with the comic theme, try to ignore Groucho Marx's attitude towards poetry, “My favorite poem is the one that starts 'Thirty days hath September' because it actually tells you something.” We love nonsense verse, limericks, and the poetry of Ogden Nash and Shel Silverstein.
You don't have to know anything about poetry to enjoy the evening. We are all amateurs, but we enjoy learning from each other.
We would love for you to join us! Bring a friend – all are welcome!
